Dinka

Dinka Private Game Reserve, Central Kalahari
Dinka is an intimate safari camp that combines contemporary design, quiet luxury, and a strong connection to the wilderness. Located in the Dinka Private Game Reserve in the Central Kalahari, the camp offers access to vast open landscapes, exceptional wildlife encounters, and the exclusivity that defines Botswana’s most remarkable safari experiences.

Location & Landscape
Dinka is located within the Dinka Private Game Reserve in Botswana’s Central Kalahari, a remote and striking wilderness defined by endless grasslands, fossil river valleys, salt pans, and open desert skies. This region offers a completely different safari atmosphere from the Okavango Delta, with dramatic seasonal changes that transform the landscape from dry golden plains into lush green expanses after the rains. The reserve’s exclusivity and low vehicle density create a true sense of isolation and immersion in nature.

Wildlife Experience
The Central Kalahari is known for its fascinating desert-adapted wildlife and exceptional predator sightings. Guests may encounter oryx, springbok, wildebeest, giraffe, jackal, bat-eared fox, honey badger, and porcupine, as well as predators such as cheetah, leopard, brown hyena, and the iconic black-maned Kalahari lions. Birdlife is also impressive, with more than 200 recorded species including kori bustards, pale chanting goshawks, and crimson-breasted shrikes. Seasonal rains often bring large concentrations of plains game and heightened predator activity.

Accommodation
Dinka is intentionally intimate, offering just eight tented accommodations, including seven spacious twin or double safari tents and one two-bedroom family tent. The suites are raised on wooden decks overlooking a permanent waterhole, allowing for wildlife viewing directly from the room. Each tent features an ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, comfortable king- or twin-size bedding configurations, writing desks, lounge seating, and private verandas designed to connect guests with the surrounding landscape.

Design & Atmosphere
The camp blends contemporary safari style with natural textures and understated elegance. Canvas, wood, earthy tones, and open spaces create a relaxed and refined atmosphere that feels deeply connected to the Kalahari environment. The central areas include open-air lounges, a dining space, a bar, a fire pit, viewing decks, and a swimming pool, all positioned to maximize views across the surrounding plains and waterhole. The atmosphere throughout the camp is peaceful, personal, and quietly luxurious.

Activities & Experiences
Activities at Dinka focus on exploring the unique ecosystem of the Central Kalahari through highly personalized safari experiences. Morning and afternoon game drives are complemented by night drives, offering opportunities to observe nocturnal wildlife rarely seen during the day. Guided nature walks and educational walks with San Bushman guides provide insight into the region’s ecology, tracking traditions, and ancient cultural heritage. The camp also features underground photographic hides overlooking waterholes, creating remarkable close-up wildlife photography opportunities. Stargazing in the clear desert skies and optional sleep-out experiences further enhance the sense of immersion in one of Botswana’s most remote wilderness regions.

Access
Dinaka is a short 35-minute southbound flight from Maun. A 55-minute northbound flight also connects directly to camps in the Okavango Delta, making it an excellent combination with Botswana’s water-based safari regions.
