Location & Landscape
Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is located in the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park near Nkuringo, positioned high along the forested slopes overlooking the Virunga Volcanoes and the Great Rift Valley. At one of the highest elevations of any lodge in Uganda, the setting combines dramatic mountain scenery, mist-covered rainforest, terraced hillsides, and cool mountain air. The views across the surrounding valleys and volcanoes are among the most spectacular in the region.
Wildlife Experience
The lodge provides direct access to gorilla trekking experiences within the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi, home to several habituated mountain gorilla families. The surrounding rainforest also supports monkeys, forest birds, butterflies, and diverse plant life within one of Africa’s richest ecosystems. The steep terrain and remote location create a more adventurous and immersive trekking atmosphere while offering rewarding wildlife encounters in a quieter section of the park.
Accommodation
Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge features spacious stone cottages and family villas positioned privately along the ridge to maximize views and privacy. Each cottage includes a large sitting area, fireplace, en-suite bathroom, private veranda, and expansive windows overlooking the forest and volcanic landscapes. The accommodations combine mountain-lodge comfort with elegant safari styling and warm interiors designed for the cool highland climate.
Design & Atmosphere
The lodge blends rustic mountain architecture with contemporary comfort through the use of volcanic stone, timber beams, fireplaces, and handcrafted Ugandan décor. Open lounges, panoramic terraces, and warm communal spaces create an atmosphere that feels intimate, cozy, and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape. Evenings by the fire after trekking through the forest are a defining part of the experience.

Access
Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is reached by domestic flight from Entebbe to nearby airstrips followed by a scenic road transfer through southwestern Uganda’s mountain landscapes and villages. Overland journeys are also possible and reveal the dramatic scenery of the Kigezi Highlands and Bwindi region along the way.
