Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in Bhutan
Upon arrival in Paro, begin the journey with a visit to the National Museum, housed inside a historic watchtower overlooking the valley. The museum provides an introduction to Bhutanese history, religious traditions, textiles, and daily life. From here, continue by road to Thimphu, a scenic drive of approximately 1.5 hours following river valleys, forested hillsides, and traditional villages. Arriving in Bhutan’s capital city, settle into your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the evening at leisure.

Day 2 - Into the Punakha Valley
The day begins with a visit to Zorig Chusum, Bhutan’s institute dedicated to preserving the country’s 13 traditional arts and crafts. Spend time observing students and teachers practicing painting, wood carving, embroidery, sculpture, and other traditional disciplines still central to Bhutanese culture today. Continue to the Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s national animal, before departing for Punakha. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours and passes through Dochula Pass, where clear days reveal panoramic Himalayan views alongside the 108 memorial chortens that define the landscape. Nearby meditation caves provide additional insight into Bhutan’s spiritual traditions before descending into the Punakha Valley.

Day 3 - Rivers and Dzongs in Punakha
Begin the morning at Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most important religious and administrative landmarks, positioned at the meeting point of two rivers. The fortress monastery is known for its Bhutanese architecture, courtyards, temples, and historical importance within the kingdom. Later, continue to Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge, stretching high above the river and linking remote villages and monastic communities. The remainder of the day allows time to experience the landscapes of Punakha, including rice terraces, forested hillsides, and riverside scenery.

Day 4 - Depart to the Sacred Valleys of Gangtey
Depart Punakha and travel approximately 3.5 hours into the highlands of Gangtey and the Phobjikha Valley, one of Bhutan’s most environmentally significant regions. Upon arrival, visit the Black-Necked Crane Centre, which focuses on conservation efforts surrounding the endangered cranes that migrate seasonally into the valley.
The region is known for its open glacial landscapes, traditional villages, and quiet rural setting. In the evening, visit Gangtey Shedra, where monks welcome visitors to observe evening prayers and daily monastic practices.

Day 5 - Monasteries and Valley Walks
The morning begins at Gangtey Goemba Monastery, an important Nyingma institution overlooking the valley below. Inside the monastery, observe traditional butter lamp offerings and prayer rituals that remain central to Bhutanese Buddhist life. Continue with a walk along the Gangtey Nature Trail, passing through forests, meadows, and small farming villages. Along the route, stop for lunch at a local farmhouse, providing insight into daily life and hospitality in rural Bhutan.

Day 6 - Across Central Bhutan to Bumthang
Today’s journey to Bumthang takes approximately 4.5 hours and crosses several mountain passes and remote valleys through central Bhutan. The route gradually transitions from the open plains of Phobjikha into the more enclosed landscapes of Bumthang.
En route, stop in Chumey Valley, an area known for its traditional yathra wool textiles. Visit a local weaving center to learn about the production techniques and craftsmanship that have been passed down through generations. Lunch is served at a local café before continuing onward through quiet countryside into Bhutan’s spiritual heartland.

Day 7 - Bumthang - Bhutan’s Spiritual Heartland
Spend the day exploring Bumthang, widely regarded as Bhutan’s spiritual center and home to many of the country’s oldest temples and monasteries. Begin with a visit to Wangdicholing Palace, associated with Bhutan’s early monarchy, before continuing to Tamshing Lhakhang, Jambay Lhakhang, and Kurjey Lhakhang.
These temples are closely connected to Guru Rinpoche and the introduction of Buddhism into Bhutan. Throughout the day, travel through valleys and villages that reflect the region’s strong religious and cultural identity.

Day 8 - From Bumthang to the remote Haa Valley
After breakfast, visit Mebar Tsho, also known as the Burning Lake, an important pilgrimage site where a traditional smoke offering ceremony takes place. Continue with a domestic flight from Bumthang to Paro, followed by a scenic road transfer of approximately 2.5 hours into the remote Haa Valley.
Upon arrival, experience a variety of local traditions and activities, including village walks, traditional music and dance, land blessing rituals, archery, herbal tea preparation, and wellness practices rooted in Bhutanese traditions. The valley’s remote setting offers a quieter and lesser-visited side of the country.

Day 9 - Mountain Passes and Paro Valley
The morning begins with time to enjoy the landscapes and activities of the Haa Valley, including optional hikes, cycling, forest bathing, or visits with local communities. After lunch, depart for Paro on a scenic drive of approximately 2.5 hours. Along the way, stop at Chelela Pass, Bhutan’s highest motorable pass at nearly 4,000 meters above sea level.
The pass is lined with colorful prayer flags and offers expansive mountain views on clear days before descending into the Paro Valley.

Day 10 - The Iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery
Today is dedicated to the hike to Paro Taktsang, widely known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery, dramatically built into a cliffside high above the Paro Valley. Closely associated with Guru Rinpoche, the monastery remains one of Bhutan’s most sacred religious sites. The trail gradually ascends through pine forests lined with prayer flags, with several viewpoints overlooking the monastery along the route.
Upon reaching the monastery complex, explore its temples, courtyards, and prayer halls while learning about the site’s religious significance and role in Bhutanese Buddhism. The hike combines cultural insight with some of Bhutan’s most recognizable mountain scenery.

Day 11 - Departure from Bhutan
After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for onward departure, concluding the journey through Bhutan’s cultural, spiritual, and natural landscapes.
