Location & Landscape
Capella Ubud is hidden within the conserved rainforest of Keliki Valley, north of Ubud. The camp occupies a dramatic terraced landscape surrounded by rice fields and dense tropical vegetation, with slopes descending toward the sacred Wos River. Its secluded setting offers immersive views and sounds of nature while remaining within easy reach of Ubud’s cultural attractions.
Wildlife Experience
While not a traditional wildlife lodge, Capella Ubud offers a close connection to Bali’s rainforest ecosystem. Guests may encounter tropical birds, butterflies, fireflies, and other small forest wildlife around the camp. Guided walks through the rainforest, rice paddies, and neighboring villages provide opportunities to experience the valley’s natural environment and traditional agricultural landscape.

The camp features 22 individually designed one-bedroom tented retreats and one two-bedroom lodge, each with a private swimming pool and spacious outdoor deck. Accommodations include indoor and outdoor rain showers, freestanding copper bathtubs, curated antiques, and modern comforts. Different categories offer views of the rainforest, Keliki Valley, rice terraces, or Wos River.

Created by architect Bill Bensley, Capella Ubud draws inspiration from adventurous 19th-century expedition camps. Canvas walls, antique maps, campaign-style furnishings, steamer trunks, handcrafted objects, and bold decorative details create a theatrical sense of discovery. Built around the existing landscape without removing mature trees, the camp feels imaginative, intimate, and deeply connected to the rainforest.
Activities & Experiences
Guests can explore rice fields and villages on foot or by bicycle, join guided rainforest walks, practice yoga, or experience Balinese healing traditions at Auriga Wellness. The camp also offers cultural activities, local storytelling around the campfire, cooking experiences, open-fire dining at Api Jiwa, and excursions to Ubud’s temples, markets, galleries, and artisan workshops.
Access
Capella Ubud is reached by private road transfer from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, with the journey generally taking 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. Central Ubud is approximately 20 to 30 minutes away. The final approach passes through rice fields and Keliki village before entering the secluded rainforest camp.
