Gangtey Lodge

Located near Gangtey Monastery, the lodge offers sweeping views across the valley where rare black-necked cranes arrive each winter and provides a peaceful retreat surrounded by forests, open meadows, and dramatic mountain scenery.

Gangtey Lodge sits on a ridge overlooking the wide glacial valley of Phobjikha, one of the most beautiful and peaceful landscapes in Bhutan. The lodge was designed in traditional Bhutanese style, with whitewashed walls, hand carved woodwork, and large windows that frame sweeping views across the valley and surrounding mountains.

The property offers only a small number of spacious suites, each featuring warm wooden interiors, comfortable sitting areas, large bathrooms, and wood burning stoves that make the rooms especially inviting during the cooler evenings. Floor to ceiling windows allow guests to enjoy the changing light across the valley throughout the day.

The lodge’s main building includes a welcoming living room, library, spa facilities, and a dining room that opens toward the valley views. The restaurant serves a combination of Bhutanese and international cuisine, with many ingredients sourced locally from nearby farms. Meals are often relaxed and unhurried, allowing guests to take in the scenery while enjoying fresh, seasonal dishes.

Gangtey Lodge is ideally located for exploring the Phobjikha Valley. Guests can walk along quiet trails through traditional villages and farmland, visit the nearby Gangtey Monastery, or spend time observing the rare black necked cranes that arrive in the valley during the winter months. Cultural visits to local homes and monasteries offer insight into the daily life of this remote region. The setting, combined with the lodge’s intimate scale, creates a very calm and authentic experience in the Bhutanese countryside.
