Location & Landscape
Matetsi Victoria Falls is set on a vast private wildlife reserve along the banks of the Zambezi River upstream from Victoria Falls. The landscape combines riverfront scenery, mopane woodlands, open plains, and quiet bushveld stretching across approximately 136,000 acres / 55,000 hectares of protected wilderness. The setting feels secluded and exclusive, offering a peaceful safari atmosphere while remaining within reach of the falls and surrounding activities.
Wildlife Experience
The private reserve supports a growing and diverse wildlife population including elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope, hippos, crocodiles, and predators such as lions and leopards. Wildlife viewing is intentionally low density, allowing for more private safari experiences with very few vehicles in the area. River safaris and game drives offer different perspectives of the landscape, while the Zambezi itself attracts wildlife throughout the day.
Accommodation
Matetsi Victoria Falls features spacious luxury suites divided into two intimate camps, as well as the exclusive-use Matetsi River House designed for families and small groups. All accommodations are positioned along the riverbank with expansive decks, private plunge pools, elegant bathrooms, and uninterrupted views of the Zambezi River. The interiors combine contemporary African design with natural materials and open living spaces that create a refined yet comfortable safari retreat.
Design & Atmosphere
The lodge blends sophisticated contemporary design with the warmth of a classic African safari lodge. Floor-to-ceiling glass, timber, stone, leather, and handcrafted details create interiors that feel elegant while remaining deeply connected to the surrounding landscape. The atmosphere is calm, polished, and highly personalized, with open river-facing lounges, quiet viewing decks, and a strong emphasis on privacy and comfort.
Activities & Experiences
Guests can enjoy morning and evening game drives, boat safaris, guided walking safaris, birdwatching, fishing, and sunset cruises on the Zambezi River. Guided visits to Victoria Falls can easily be arranged, along with helicopter flights, white-water rafting, and day trips to Chobe National Park. The combination of safari, river activities, and access to Victoria Falls creates a varied and well-balanced experience.
Access
Matetsi Victoria Falls is located approximately 40 km / 25 mi from Victoria Falls town and airport and is reached via a scenic road transfer through the surrounding bushveld. The drive into the reserve gradually transitions from the activity of town into a quieter and more exclusive wilderness setting along the Zambezi River.
