Location & Landscape
Misool Eco Resort occupies the private island of Batbitim in remote southern Raja Ampat, Indonesia. Surrounded by uninhabited limestone islands, turquoise lagoons, white-sand beaches, and pristine coral reefs, the resort lies 165 kilometers from the nearest port. Its extraordinary isolation places guests at the heart of one of the world’s richest marine environments.
Wildlife Experience
The resort is surrounded by the 300,000-acre Misool Marine Reserve and lies within the Raja Ampat Shark and Manta Sanctuary. Divers and snorkelers may encounter manta rays, reef sharks, turtles, giant clams, schooling fish, and an exceptional variety of corals. Above water, cockatoos, hornbills, sea eagles, kingfishers, and other tropical birds inhabit the surrounding forests and islands.
Accommodation
Misool offers 20 accommodations for a maximum of 40 guests. Eight Water Cottages and four larger villas occupy the North Lagoon, while seven villas are positioned along South Beach and the secluded Villa Rajawali overlooks the southern horizon. Rooms feature handcrafted furnishings, air conditioning, open-air bathrooms, spacious verandas, and views of the ocean, lagoon, beach, or surrounding jungle.
Design & Atmosphere
The resort was constructed entirely from reclaimed tropical hardwoods, much of it milled and crafted on the island. Traditional thatched roofs, open-air spaces, handcrafted furniture, and structures carefully integrated around limestone formations create a natural and distinctly Indonesian character. The atmosphere is intimate, peaceful, and informal, combining barefoot comfort with a serious commitment to marine conservation.
Activities & Experiences
Scuba diving and snorkeling are central to the Misool experience, with more than 40 dive sites and a remarkable house reef accessible directly from the resort. Guests can also kayak through limestone lagoons, paddleboard, enjoy deserted-beach picnics, join birding cruises, hike to viewpoints, experience spa treatments, and attend marine conservation lectures. Excursions are available for both experienced divers and non-divers.
Access
Guests fly to Sorong, usually connecting through Jakarta, and are met on arrival by the resort team. The journey continues by private speedboat to Batbitim Island, taking approximately five hours depending on sea conditions. Transfers operate on fixed dates, with stays generally offered for seven, nine, or 12 nights. An overnight stay before the scheduled transfer is recommended.
