Hidden within secluded valleys and surrounded by pristine landscapes, these intimate tented camps combine authentic cultural immersion, meaningful community connections, and personalized comfort, providing access to a side of Bhutan rarely seen by travelers.

Location & Landscape
Sangwa Private Camps are set within some of Bhutan’s most remote and least-visited valleys, including Haa in the west, Gasa in the high Himalayas, and Tsirang in the south. Each location has been selected for its distinct cultural traditions, landscapes, and biodiversity, with exact camp locations revealed only upon arrival. From forested mountain valleys and alpine meadows to subtropical farmlands and glacial landscapes, Sangwa offers access to regions that remain largely untouched by tourism and deeply connected to Bhutan’s traditional way of life.

Wildlife Experience
The valleys surrounding Sangwa support an impressive diversity of wildlife across a range of ecosystems. Depending on the location, lucky guests may encounter red pandas, snow leopards, takins, golden langurs, white-bellied herons, and more. Guided nature experiences focus on exploring these pristine habitats while learning about local conservation efforts and the ecological significance of Bhutan’s protected wilderness areas.

Accommodation
Accommodation is provided in intimate luxury tented camps designed to reflect Bhutan’s nomadic heritage while offering a high level of comfort. The signature Layap Suite is inspired by the traditional yak-hair tents used by highland herders and features handcrafted furnishings, a wood-burning Bukhari stove, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Each tent is thoughtfully designed with its own private ensuite facilities and modern comforts, while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. The camps are intentionally small, creating a highly personalized experience immersed in nature.

Design & Atmosphere
Sangwa combines authentic Bhutanese craftsmanship with understated luxury. Natural materials, handcrafted details, and thoughtful design create spaces that feel both refined and connected to their surroundings. The atmosphere is private, relaxed, and deeply rooted in place, allowing guests to experience the landscapes and cultures of remote Bhutan in a comfortable yet unobtrusive setting.

Activities & Experiences
Experiences are developed in partnership with local communities and vary according to the valley. Guests may enjoy guided hikes through remote forests, visits with local families, traditional music and dance performances, foraging excursions, culinary experiences, archery, wellness treatments, hot stone baths, and cultural encounters led by village residents and monks. For those seeking a deeper wilderness experience, multi-night expeditions provide access to remote Himalayan terrain, ancient migration routes, and rarely visited cultural sites.

Community & Sustainability
Sangwa operates with a strong commitment to community involvement and environmental stewardship. Approximately 85% of staff come from nearby villages, and most ingredients are sourced from local farmers. The camps are powered entirely by solar energy and are designed with minimal permanent infrastructure. By placing local communities at the center of the guest experience, Sangwa helps preserve traditional knowledge, cultural practices, and sustainable livelihoods while providing travelers with meaningful connections to Bhutan’s diverse regions.

Access
Sangwa camps are reached by a combination of domestic flights and overland transfers, depending on the valley being visited. The experience is fully customized, with logistics arranged privately for each guest. The remote nature of the camps is an integral part of the experience, providing access to regions of Bhutan that few travelers have the opportunity to explore.
