Location & Landscape
Sausage Tree Camp is set directly on the banks of the Zambezi River within Lower Zambezi National Park, surrounded by winterthorn forests, open floodplains, and the dramatic escarpment rising beyond the river in Zimbabwe. The setting combines the calm movement of the river with the untamed atmosphere of the bush, where elephants, hippos, and antelope frequently move through camp and along the shoreline.

The Lower Zambezi is known for its diverse and highly active wildlife viewing, and Sausage Tree Camp offers exceptional access to both land- and water-based safari experiences. Lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, wild dogs, and large concentrations of hippos are regularly encountered, while the river and surrounding woodlands support extraordinary birdlife. Accommodation
The camp features seven spacious luxury tented suites along the riverbank, as well as the exclusive-use Kigelia House designed for families and small groups. Each suite offers expansive indoor-outdoor living with private plunge pools, large viewing decks, elegant bathrooms, and uninterrupted views across the Zambezi River. The atmosphere balances classic safari romance with refined comfort and privacy.

Activities & Experiences
Guests can enjoy morning and evening game drives, night drives, guided walking safaris, canoeing, sunset boat cruises, birdwatching, and catch-and-release tiger fishing on the Zambezi River. The camp is especially well known for combining traditional game viewing with river-based experiences, offering a varied and immersive way to explore the Lower Zambezi. Evenings often end around the firepit overlooking the river as hippos move through the channels below camp.
Access
Sausage Tree Camp is accessed via a light-aircraft flight from Lusaka to Jeki Airstrip, followed by a short game drive and boat transfer to camp. The journey into the Lower Zambezi gradually reveals the region’s river channels, forests, and floodplains, creating an immediate sense of entering one of Africa’s great wilderness areas.
